Stainless steel is an alloy primarily composed of steel and a minimum of 10.5% chromium, along with other elements like nickel and molybdenum. These additional elements are included to meet specific requirements, such as:

  • Enhanced Corrosion Resistance

When chromium interacts with oxygen, it forms a thin, sealed, and fixed-adhering chromic-oxide layer, also known as the passive layer. This passive layer is responsible for the material’s resistance to corrosion, making it an ideal choice for various applications, such as washing drums.

Comparison with Aluminum

Stainless steel shares certain properties with anodized aluminum, particularly in corrosion resistance. However, when the material’s exterior surface is damaged, both materials can suffer surface-level impairment.
